Happy New Year!
It’s 2012 and if you are looking to improve your health and fitness levels then Kung fu, tai chi and Qi gong are great ways to do it. If you already have a practice or you are just beginning make sure to set reachable short term goals. As you meet your short term goals see where they are getting you closer to your long term goals. Avoid the classic pit falls of over training and outrageous goal setting that can lead to injury. Build a sensible practice that can become part of your way of life. I kept this short so you could get through it quickly and get to work. Now..GET OFF THE TECHNOLOGY AND GET TO WORK!!!
Amazing Lion Dance Seminar in Casco Maine
A great time was had by all who participated in this past weekends lion dance seminar in Casco Maine. Hosts Lisa and Eric Magiera, owners of BKD Fitness, have an amazing group of super talented kids that quickly took to the lion dance. All the kids and several adults were playing the drum, symbol, and gong as well as acting the part of the head and tail of the lion. Friends from 5 Elements in Bath Maine came in to join in as well. With four lion heads and two drums it was a noisy and active affair.
We wish BKD Fitness’ lion dance troupe all the best for their debut performance next weekend at the Summer opening of Pears Ice Cream and Hogies.
Lion Dances into Maine
After a couple of short and uneventful flights, Grandmaster Chin and Sifu Heintzman landed safely in Portland ME to a warm reception from Senseis Eric and Lisa Magiera. They are hosting GM Chin and Sifu Heintzman for a seminar on traditional southern Chinese Lion Dance. The lion dance is used to showcase the strength of a schools stance work and techniques. It is also used to cleanse spaces of evil spirits and to bring good luck in the new year. The weekend is off to a great start with lunch at Saeng Thai House in downtown Portland. Eat your heart out food fans.
